Now that we have uncovered the strategies to “Unpacking Your Bags” and “Landing the Plane” in the first 2 articles of this series; let’s focus on The Power of NOW! Yes, there is real and tangible power when we stay present. That power gives us the ability to rest in peace, experience unspeakable joy and ultimately love each moment regardless of the circumstance. Now, that sounds exciting, doesn’t it? As with any new undertaking, this takes practice and dedication.
Do you know what it means to live a full life? Each and every moment that life brings us is full of experiences. These experiences are there to teach us and to bless us. Your brain can only process 5-7 bits of information per second even though it is bombarded with hundreds even thousands of stimulus per second. Anytime you allow your mind to be somewhere other than the present you block the processing portion of your brain from receiving that information which ultimately means losing that solid memory. I wonder how many memories we have missed out on because we were caught up in the past or future.
“If you worry about what might be, and wonder what might have been, you will ignore what is.” –Unknown
It’s critical to remember that living in the past or the future uses up energy which can be used for the present. The past is over and done, you cannot go back and change it and the outcome of your future depends on your actions and choices in the present so if you want to change your life, the only place you can do it is NOW! Easier said than done? Let’s find out.
Find the Good
How many times do we find ourselves focusing on what hasn’t happened yet instead of being thankful and appreciative of what has. Bringing attention to even the smallest bit of progress can strengthen our hearts. Your emotional well-being and physical health can dramatically improve as you pour your energy into the positive aspects of each moment. Yes, they are there… we just have to find them.
Take a Deep Breath
Not only does deep breathing stimulate the immune system, detoxify the body and improve lymphatic function, it also keeps us present. Pause for a moment, close your eyes and take several slow deep breaths focusing on releasing any trapped stress or anxiety. Research shows that meditation brings the brainwave pattern to an alpha state… a relaxed and peaceful level of consciousness. You can find several detailed breathing techniques on our website: www.lomonacodc.com/breathe. One step… one moment… one day at a time.
Observe the Mind
If you think about it, the only thing keeping us from living in the present is our mind. We have complete control over our minds which means we do have the ability to stay present. The Vacuum Law of Prosperity says that “two things cannot take up the same space, so we must let something go before the new can enter.” We have to create space for incoming gifts in order to have the ability to receive them. Are there thoughts you are holding onto or stories you haven’t let go of? These thoughts take up space that could be inhabited with new and great things. Start by staying focused on what you are currently doing, appreciate what is and open yourself up to receiving the gift of that moment.
Remember, staying present is a life-long practice. Find purpose in doing what you can today. Allow sadness if necessary, and then move past it. Experience every minute and expect the gifts that it brings. There are four statements that I strive to live by: be impeccable with your word, do not take anything personally, do not make assumptions and do your best. Just live one day at a time and endeavor to make each day the very best it can be!
Welcome to the Power of NOW,
